Reading Time

1 min read

A 20-minute night reading routine works because it is small enough to repeat and long enough to make visible progress. Most readers fail from unrealistic goals, not lack of motivation. If your plan is one hour every night, missed days stack up fast. If your plan is 20 minutes, you can keep momentum even on busy days.

Set up your reading trigger

Attach reading to an action you already do every night, such as charging your phone or making tea. The trigger should happen at the same time in the same place. Consistency beats intensity here.

Use a low-friction reading environment

  • Keep one active book only for weeknights.
  • Turn off unnecessary notifications before you start.
  • Use a font size and brightness that reduce eye strain.

This removes setup friction and helps your brain recognize reading as the default next step.

Track streaks, not page counts

A simple streak tracker creates positive pressure. Mark each completed 20-minute session. After two weeks, increase to 25 minutes only if the habit feels stable. If you miss a night, restart immediately the next day with no catch-up penalty.
